The Trans-Pacific free trade area is one of the world’s largest and most dynamic free trade areas. As Britain looks to the future, we are keen to work with other nations that champion free and fair trade.
The Eat Out to Help Out scheme has been a fantastic success with over 100 million meals being claimed for. It is estimated to have saved 1.8 million jobs in hospitality. In South Derbyshire alone 94,000 meals were claimed with 66 businesses taking part.
Young people are the future and we must provide them with hope and the opportunity to succeed. I welcome the Government’s landmark new £2 billion scheme to create quality, government-subsidised jobs across the UK.
Creating jobs and securing economic growth is important, particularly across the whole of the UK not just in certain areas. One way we can do this and level up the whole of the UK is by improving transport and infrastructure.
One of the challenges the pandemic has presented is looking after our health and wellbeing both physically and mentally. Self-isolating and social distancing has been hard for everyone, some more than others and particularly for those shielding and living alone.
Securing a safe and effective vaccine is the only way to defeat the coronavirus. The UK has secured early access to 90 million doses of two vaccine candidates. This includes 60 million doses of the Nova vaccine and 30 million doses of the Janssen vaccine.
I hope today is a day to celebrate for many of you getting your A level results in South Derbyshire. It has been an unusual year for you and I can appreciate how hard you have all worked and how disappointing it was for some of you not to have sat your exams this year.
