The UK has a long history of leading the way on animal welfare. I am pleased that now we have left the EU, the Government is committed to improving our already world-leading standards by delivering a series of ambitious reforms, outlined in the Action Plan for Animal Welfare.
I am acutely aware that pubs have faced considerable challenges during the coronavirus pandemic, and I am therefore encouraged that they have been provided with significant financial support and relief.
The United Kingdom has a proud record of helping those fleeing persecution, oppression or tyranny from around the world. Alongside providing £10 billion a year to support people through our overseas aid, the UK is a global leader in refugee resettlement.
Frontline NHS workers have played a vital and unique role throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and I know we are all grateful for their dedication. It is right that they receive a pay rise, despite the wider public sector pay pause, in recognition of their extraordinary contribution.
POLICE PAY I would like to pay tribute to the bravery, commitment, and professionalism of our police. The police have worked throughout the pandemic to keep the public safe. On 21 July, the seventh report of the Police Remuneration Review Body (PRRB) was published.
I believe that the passion, commitment, and specialist knowledge of our NHS staff is part of what makes our NHS so special. In particular, I recognise the sacrifice, commitment and dedication of our NHS workers over the past year.
