September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and I, along with my fellow Parliamentary colleagues are wearing our gold ribbons with pride as we help to draw attention to this worthy cause.

Yesterday I met with the FASD Trust on National FASD Day to learn more about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and the impact they have on later life.

There has been an on going debate about the plausibility of mitochondrial replacement techniques. Following a visit from a constituent who suffers from mitochondrial disease I looked into the debate further and I agree with her that we should be doing all we can to prevent this terrible disease.

Hospital Parking

The issue of Hospital Parking charges is a lively one in South Derbyshire. There have been some incidents with the frankly daft system currently in place at Burton Hospital, where visitors have to remember their own arrival time which isn't practical when people may be rushing to a&e for example.

Recently both our newspapers and television have been full of details with regard to the horrific sexual exploitation of children in Rotherham and the failings of the various agencies there: the sheer numbers of youngsters involved and whom the system failed are both shocking and soul destroying.

Refurbishment of Swadlincote Post Office

The Post Office in the Delph in Swadlincote will close on the 19th of August until the 30th for a major refurbishment. The project will modernise the premises and introduce new counters which will aid customers with an easier, more efficient layout.

Roma's Garden Memorial Dedication

I was touched to be invited to another memorial dedication in Hilton on the 4th of August, a more intimate affair in Roma's Garden by the Hilton and Marsden History Group.
