Yesterday I met with the FASD Trust on National FASD Day to learn more about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and the impact they have on later life.

There has been an on going debate about the plausibility of mitochondrial replacement techniques. Following a visit from a constituent who suffers from mitochondrial disease I looked into the debate further and I agree with her that we should be doing all we can to prevent this terrible disease.

Hospital Parking

The issue of Hospital Parking charges is a lively one in South Derbyshire. There have been some incidents with the frankly daft system currently in place at Burton Hospital, where visitors have to remember their own arrival time which isn't practical when people may be rushing to a&e for example. 

PM Statement on the EU, Security & Middle East

Yesterday in the Chamber the Prime Minister made a statement on the EU Council, Security and the Middle East. This is a very important and timely debate following the recent upgrading of the perceived terror threat to the UK. 

Refurbishment of Swadlincote Post Office

The Post Office in the Delph in Swadlincote will close on the 19th of August until the 30th for a major refurbishment. The project will modernise the premises and introduce new counters which will aid customers with an easier, more efficient layout.

Roma's Garden Memorial Dedication

I was touched to be invited to another memorial dedication in Hilton on the 4th of August, a more intimate affair in Roma's Garden by the Hilton and Marsden History Group.

Hilton Meadows Memorial Dedication

Monday, the 4th of August, was the anniversary of one hundred years to the day that war was declared by Germany on Belgium marking the beginning of World War One.
