Making My Maiden Speech

Making My Maiden SpeechI have now made my Maiden speech and can take a full part in Parliamentary activities.  This tradition is ages old.  I actually had to sit and wait from 2.15  to 8.15 in the Chamber before being called by the Speaker, so six hours getting more and more nervous until my name was called.

I wanted to tell the whole house about the great parts of South Derbyshire that make me so proud to be its MP.  I also talked about the future.  SD has grown so much that we desperately need a new secondary school for children around the Melbourne area.

Also the interest shown by the parents and team that run Dame Catherine Harpur’s school in Ticknall in the new Free Schools program.  Amongst many other matters educational achievement for our residents' children is a key priority.

It was a frightening few minutes of my life but all the feedback so far has been extremely favourable.  If you have time have a look at the video by clicking here.
